Home veterinary visit

Home Veterinary Care for Dogs and Cats

I provide comprehensive veterinary services in the comfort of your pet's own home throughout the Franklin area.

Every visit is thorough, unhurried, and tailored to your pet's needs and your family's circumstances.

What to Expect During Your Visit

1

Before I Arrive

I'll call to gather information about your pet and confirm that a home visit is the best approach. For health checks, I typically ask you to request your pet's medical records from their current clinic-based vet.

2

During the Visit

I bring everything needed, including scales to accurately weigh your pet. I'll examine your pet thoroughly and can take blood samples if your pet is reasonably cooperative.

3

After the Visit

You'll receive written clinical notes about the visit and an invoice. If further treatment is needed, I'll help you organise the best next steps.

Services Available

🩺

Health Checks & Wellness Exams

Thorough physical examinations in your pet's comfortable environment, including dental, skin, and ear checks. Perfect for anxious pets and multi-pet households.

💉

Vaccinations

Core vaccinations for dogs and cats, administered calmly at home without the stress of a clinic waiting room.

🔍

Microchipping

Quick, efficient microchipping service that's much easier when your pet is relaxed at home.

🔬

Basic Diagnostics & Medication

Blood sampling and fine needle aspirates for cooperative pets. I can prescribe medications and collect samples from both cats and dogs.

🐾

Senior & Special Needs Care

Older pets often benefit from the ease and familiarity of a home visit. I provide senior healthcare tailored to make your pet's twilight years more comfortable.

💊

Managing Chronic Conditions

I can manage some chronic conditions with home-based care, including feline hyperthyroidism, diabetes, allergic skin disease, and arthritis.

✂️

At-Home Castration for Male Cats

For male cats that become stressed in clinic settings, I can perform castration at home. Other desexing procedures for dogs and female cats are best handled in a clinic with full surgical facilities.

💅

Nail Clipping

I offer nail trimming at home and can use sedation for dogs that get very stressed during the process.

Peaceful end-of-life care

Compassionate End-of-Life Care

Peaceful, dignified euthanasia in familiar surroundings. I sedate pets first so they look peacefully asleep before placing the final catheter. Available inside or outside, wherever feels most comfortable and special for your family.

Cremation Arrangements

I can arrange cremation services and return your pet's ashes to you, handling all the details during this difficult time.

What I Refer to Other Vets

Some situations are better handled at clinic-based practices: X-rays, ultrasound exams, surgical procedures, dental work, hospitalisation, and complex medical cases requiring extensive diagnostics.

I'll explain what your pet needs and help connect you with experienced vets who I know will do a good job. Pet owners may use more than one vet service — I write thorough notes and share them with you and your clinic-based vet to ensure continuity of care.

I'm mindful of ensuring pet owners get good outcomes, and I know the local veterinary landscape well enough to recommend the right specialist or clinic for your pet's specific needs.

Service Area

I serve the Franklin area within 30km of Pukekohe. I enjoy driving around the rural countryside, so distance isn't usually a problem, especially for end-of-life care.

I'm willing to travel further into the country and can visit south Auckland suburbs when needed.

Who Benefits Most from Home Visits

  • Pets who get anxious at veterinary clinics
  • Multi-pet households where bringing everyone to a clinic is challenging
  • Elderly owners who find travelling to clinics difficult
  • Families wanting peaceful, dignified end-of-life care for their pets
  • Anyone who values unhurried, thorough veterinary care
Caring for anxious pets

My Approach with Anxious Pets

I take my time and don't push pets beyond what they're comfortable with. Because I'm not coming from a clinic, I don't carry those associated smells that many pets find stressful.

With cats, especially, I know they don't love new people, so I focus on getting what needs to be done efficiently. With larger dogs, I'm practical about what I can safely accomplish.

Pricing

My prices are similar to standard general practice clinics — more expensive than low-cost vets, but you're getting personalised service and direct access to an experienced veterinarian.

Home visits aren't necessarily more expensive than clinic visits, and the reduced stress for your pet often makes it worthwhile.

Book Now

Give me a call or email, and I'll see how I can help you and your pet. I'll be upfront if I feel your pet's issue is best solved with a clinic visit, and I'll give you an estimate of costs so you'll know what to expect.
