What are Soapnuts and how to use Soapnuts

Soapnuts are also known as soap nuts, soapberry, wash nuts and wash berry. Soapnuts are fruits that grow naturally on trees. The fruits contain a natural substance called Saponin, which when dissolved in water, create mild suds. The saponin has remarkable cleaning properties, and can easily replace normal detergents and laundry powders.

  • They are also hypo-allergenic making them ideal for sensitive skin and allergy suffers. Gentle enough to use on baby clothes and cloth nappies.

Laundry Use:

Soapnut Shells: Place 6-8 shells in cotton wash-bag provided, please contact us if you need another one. Put this into your washing machine load with temperatures up to 90 Degrees.

Soapnut Powder: add 2-3 teaspoons of powder into the cotton washbag & place inside the washing machine with your clothes. Suitable for both front & top loading machines.

Soapnut Powder Sachets: Place a single soapnut sachet into the washing machine. Do not cut open the sachet. Soapnut sachets are suitable for washing laundry at all temperatures. Dispose of the sachet in your compost pile once your laundry is complete.

Soapnuts are highly-effective and gentle at the same time. It will leave your clothes, towels and sheets fresh and clean. It can be used on all fabrics and at all temperatures. There is no need for fabric softeners or conditioners to be added.

If you wish to change the scent of your clean laundry, you can add a few drops of essential oils to the wash such tree tea oil or lavender.

Shells can be used for more than one wash but the number of washes per shell bag will depend on the water temperature. Washing in cold water, the soapnuts can be used more often. Use soapnuts only once if washing with hot water.

Dishwasher Use:

Soapnut Shells: Place 5-6 soapnuts into the cotton wash bag and secure to the cutlery holder.

Soapnut Powder: add 2-3 teaspoons of powder into the cotton wash bag and secure to the cutlery holder.

Soapnut Powder Sachets: place a sachet into your cutlery holder.

Add some vinegar in the rinse aid dispenser and your cutlery will come out sparkling clean.

There are no artificial foaming agents so there will be only a few, if any lasting, bubbles but your washing up will be cleaned effectively even if left to soak.
