Benefits of Baby Wearing

Babywearing - a timeless art with modern twist

Babywearing is convenient.

Using a baby carrier when going for walks and other gentle exercises can help you get your post pregnancy body back into shape.

Baby carriers such as the Moby Wrap, Manduca Baby Carrier, Popit Wrap and Unido Sling allows you to breast feed while babywearing and gives you instant privacy while baby is feeding. It is also possible to give baby a bottle.

Babywearing can help premature babies and babies with slow weight gain, gain weight faster. This is because the baby is held close to you and can be fed more often and the feeds are usually longer than a feed out of the baby carrier. This is known as Kangroo Care, once a premature baby is able to be held, mums are now encouraged to babywear.

Infants who are 'worn' are often calmer, cry less and learn quicker. This is because their survival needs are being met and baby tends to be spend more time in a state of alertness which allows them to interact with their environment.

Fathers, older siblings (teenagers or older) and grandparents can also babywear and is great way for them to bond with baby.

Here are what some babywearing mums say:

"I LOVE our baby carrier, it has been a lifesaver. C had reflux until around 6 months and on the really bad days I would just pop him in and go for a walk so that he could sleep (upright). Some afternoons I just wandered round a mall till he woke up again! Some people swear by them as they can still "get things done around the house" but TBH I think my arms were too short as I found it a bit tricky doing things around a baby on my front. In saying that, it was much better than being stuck on the couch with a baby in my (aching) arms! We still use it loads now, it's been invaluable on holidays especially since we can back or front carry so C can enjoy the change in scenery if needed and we can walk further with C on our back. We're planning an overseas holiday in a couple of weeks time and will take both the carrier and the sling as they offer a lot more freedom than a stroller when you're in random South East Asian cities!"

"Our baby carrier is a recent acquisition and is my favourite. I tried a few options when Ava was small but I ended up with a sore back and found it difficult to sit down while she was sleeping. The carrier we use now is super comfortable, I don't have any back aches and I was even able to make a cake with her strapped to my front just a few weeks ago. When I pull it out Ava gets so excited because she knows we are going out on an adventure. I also love the fact both Andrew and I can use it and he likes wearing Ava too"

"The Unido sling is the best investment I have made in a long time! Gone are the days of pram wrangling, and for a quarter of the price of a pram I have a much more content and happy baby because she snuggled up with Mum. I'm always getting stopped in the street by people who love my Unido Sling, its so chic! "
